Law week is coming!
This day is set aside to reflect on the role of law in the foundation of our country and to recognize its importance for society.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed its first observance on May 1, 1958. Two years later Law Day was codified.
This year the Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) officially celebrates Law Day on April 29th but over the years, Oklahoma lawyers have come to celebrate “Law Week.”
We just cannot seem to squeeze so many county bar activities into one day! Activities emphasizing law as a fundamental part of our country this year are held across the state beginning April 23rd and lasting through May 6th.
This year the OBA hosts an annual art and writing contest for students, a 12-hour free legal advice line with a state-wide toll free phone number and a television show highlighting Oklahoma Law Day 2010, on April 29th.
See the list of events by the OBA and county bar associations at this link: http://www.okbar.org/lawday/
Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma joins our community in celebration of Law Day by participating in community law fairs, free legal clinics, free advice phone banks and meeting with the public at county courthouse law libraries.
The Tulsa Law office of Legal Aid is hosting our annual free CLE seminar, "Family Law Issues" on Tuesday, May 4th, at 8:30 a.m. at the Greenwood Cultural Center, East Hall. This CLE is approved for 7 hours MCLE credit and is FREE for lawyers actively participating in Legal Aid's pro bono program. (20 hours of service in the next 12 months). For more information or to sign up online, see the Calendar on our pro bono support website http://www.probono.net/link.cfm?14622
As a lawyer or legal professional, please consider joining the Oklahoma Bar Association and Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma in celebrating the important impact lawyers have on the lives of individuals and the law.
